Looking at the photographs of Lincoln over the four years of his presidency, you definitley see that toll that it has taken.
As for the article...a nice read, but I will leave my opinions of Mr. Obama where they belong...and that isn't here. I keep my politics very tight lipped when it comes to historical forums, even in the Campfire chat.

Very judicious, JMan. Modern politics leads in one direction only. It is, theoretically, allowable in the Campfire Chat, it does invariably lead to nastiness. Best to go punch your neighbor in the nose and leave politics to the voting booth.
Have you noticed that those who share your political beliefs are not necessarily on your side when quarreling about the Civil War? Guess it takes all kinds and takes in all kinds. Interesting.

I posted the Time article because I thought it was a nice essay about what photos of Lincoln may tell us about the man and his trials.
Some subsequent posters have taken that post to be some kind of political statement, presumably because the author of the essay is a candidate for President.
I would have posted that essay, whether it was posted by either George Bush, any Clinton, any Nixon, etc., because I found it a wonderful reflection on Lincoln and his legacy.
Kill the messenger, if you like.

What you're seeing, samgrant, is some good-natured jesting. Your original post was acknowledged for what it was. A fine piece of writing by a guy who may well be a candidate for the most powerful man in the world.
What I think and and anyone else thinks is worth making jokes about.
And yes. Lincoln's before and almost after photos show the wear. The job is worth far more than the pay.

Ditto Ole. Sorry Sam, wasn't trying to make a subversive jibe at you. Not my attention at all. My apologies.
