Default General Lee's cousin Barack

Are the planets lining up? A funny looking Illinois lawyer with experience in the Illinois legislature, but only a few years in the National Congress, running for president. Ironically a "Black" man.

Gen. Lee was a member of the Lee family, obviously (duh), which had links to later English Royalty. He was also a descendant of the Carter line through his mother whose cousins, along with the Lee relatives, include most of the families who ever lived in Virginia. Not surprising Barack could be claimed as a cousin. Back home (western North Carolina mountains) we had lots of cousins. Still do.

My North Carolina ancestors married their cousins... makes the genealogy on my dad's side very, very easy!

Reminds me of the old joke told here in Texas: If two people in Arkansas get a divorce, are they still cousins?

Oh yeah, I suffer from pedigree collapse rather badly on that side of the family. It's probably a coconut palm, because some of my cousins are certainly nuts!

Genealogy is one of those wonderful "sciences" that can be used to show that everyone is related to everyone. I read somewhere that every person on earth is a 50th cousin of every other person on earth. Whether that's true or not, it's an interesting thought!

Two of my friends from another Civil War board turned out to be very distant cousins of mine, with our common ancestors in the 1500s. Not surprising, considering that the gene pool was much smaller then.
