April Park Day 2008 I mentioned this in the new chat room and thought it would make a good FYI post. The first weekend in April of every year is designated as April Park Day. Volunteers can participate at Civil War Military Parks across the country to help preserve these site for generation to come. I have done this for the past 4 years at Vicksburg, Shiloh, Mansfield and Brice's Crossroads. We have done thing as simple as picking up trash and painting signs and more labor intensive tasks such as building a new worm fence and cleaning the National Cemetery wall of debris and vines at Shiloh. This is done in conjunction with The Civil War Preservation Trust and the History Channel. Everyone gets a T-shirt that has the winning design from a school age, nation wide art contest with a battle field preservation theme. You get to meet some nice people from all across our great nation and help save and preserve a piece of history. Pretty much all of the main CW sites participate as well as many state parks that encompass CW related areas. Just google CWPT (civil war preservation trust) and check out their site for a complete list of sites. I myself, along with my wife will be participating at Chickamauga this year. See ya there.
