Thumbs up Announcement: New Chat Room in the works

Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you know that I have a new chat room that will be installed in the next week. It's a bit different from the old chat room, hopefully it will also be more secure and easy to use for everyone.

Before I install and activate the new room, I'd like you all to setup a weekly chat schedule, with dates and times for chats...

For instance:

8pm Friday Night Trivia

9pm Saturday Gettysburg Discussions

Think about it and vote for a new schedule amongst yourselves.

How about this schedule:

"The first thing in the morning is drill. Then drill, then drill again. Then drill, drill, a little more drill. Then drill, and lastly drill."

A bit of reality, good people. A chat room tends to devolve into "how's your mom n em" Sometimes there are genuine CW chats goning on. Usually, there's none of that. The chat room we'er about to get will be a venue for each of us to get to know each other on a more personal level. Somewhere, along the line, some CW stuff might come up. I won't bet on it.

Well, I'll just throw this out and y'all see if you want to revise it. What about a 9pm chat every night, on different topics such as suggested by Mike, ie: Gettysburg, Trivia, (any other campaigns or battles), slavery, build-up to secession (from 1800- 1860, Wilmot Proviso, Kansas-Nebraska, Dred Scott etc.) and one night we could do a "how's your mom 'n 'em."

The topics could be changed (a different battle or whatever) if they lose momentum after a time, or don't attract chatters.

I enjoyed the previous chat room on this board before it was hacked into and had to be shut down. It's a great idea. Just some suggestions to try to get this new one off and running.

Time zone.....ok, well, doesn't matter to me. We could take an informal poll on it, or maybe Mike could check and see which zone most of us are congregated in, and we could go with the most populous time zone. I'm open to EST, CST, MST. PST would work too. I'd just have to do a little more mental arithmetic. (I think I have that many fingers.) As far as drill goes, if you're still drilling at 9pm, whatever time zone, then you need to have a sitdown with your company commander.

I usually just show up when time and temperament permit. I can never keep schedules straight and forget to check in as often as I do.

It will take a bit of time to get people used to checking in, and then in deciding what to tallk about, if anything.
