I'd actually like a chat time dedicated to a single topic some times and at other times maybe just a free for all.

As to a single topic, I can only remind members of the fiasco of my attempt to organize a "Book Discussion" chat room.

See the disaster here:

http://civilwartalk.com/forums/book-...ored-dead.html

That was a real example of folks getting off topic!

To read it now, it is somewhat humorous, but at the time it was discouraging experience.

I probably won't participate except in the "how's your mom 'n 'em" disscussions.

But I like a book club idea. Could be a once a month scheduled time (obviously to read the whole book) or could be weekly and just do chapters.

regualting something too much just leads to more rules to be broken. Something as informal as a chat room really should be just that.. informal. poeple pop in and out, not everybody knows the rules unless a moderator bots them in ever 30 seconds... by looking at Sam's attempt you can tell it gets pretty off track very easily. just my $.02 (no cents sign on a keyboard.. how stupid is that???)
