Default Sherman's hatred of the newspapers

Isn't it ironic that the newspapers and news media today are
trying to second guess the President and the generals over the war in Iraq?
No wonder Sherman hated the newspapers. Only in his day he could publically declare his feelings. Today a
general voicing his personal feelings toward the media
would probably be fired.

Was there ever a time that the news didn't second-guess and armchair quarterback? If you find one, please let me know.

There's no doubt in my mind, if we had today's media during WWII it coudl have been a different outcome. But then again, I cant imagine a guy like Patton letting them follow him around.

There's no doubt in my, if we had today's political leadership during WWII, it could have been a different outcome. Actually Patton, and other WWII generals were very publicity conscious. And Patton he did get into hot water(after the war) for remarks he made comparing Nazis without American political parties.

Newspaper editor George W. Peck was certainly critical of the war and the way it was being fought. Then he gwined the cavalry and learned first hand that it wasn't so easy from the saddle as it was from his desk.

Not all correspondents were hated. Earnie Pyle was loved by the men and many were saddened to learn of his death.
