Same mounument every where This is not a hard hitting, cutting edge thread but I was just wondering. When my wife and I visit a park we always follow the path of the TX regiments that fought there and take pictures of the TX monument. Texas placed most of theirs during the centennial years. That being said, Gettysburg, Antietam, Shiloh, Mansfield and even Galveston, they are all the same!! All are made of pink granite found in the Texas hill country, stand about 7' tall and even the inscriptions are almost identical. We like to say everything is bigger and better in TX but not in this case. I know some out there would like to have no monuments present, keep the battle field as it was during the war, but I for one like them. I guess I suffer from monument envy. I know that Alabama always has the same woman represented in their monuments. Have all of the states tried to keep any similar likenesses or themes? Let us know any similarities or quirks that are out there. |
