Default If 'The Last Full Measure' is made

If 'The Last Full Measure' is made, what would you like to see in it?

Geeze, they've got to make this one to make up for G+G!

Obviously, it must be post Gettysburg, but how much to deal with?

My thoughts:

Not do a big emphasis on the Overland Campaign, it is difficult enough to follow in writing and would be troublesome to condense into film (tho I'd miss Upton's charge by ranks at Spotsylvania).

I'd start with a summary of that confusing campaign and then focus on the siege of Petersburg. Maybe do the Fort Stedman thing, and then followup with the fall of Petersburg and Richmond and the pursuit to Appomattox.

Of course the surrender at Appomattox must be a major scene (hopefully taken from Horace Porter's Campaigning with Grant?).

The final scene (we gotta get Jeff Daniels back) would be where the the Rebs lay down their arms (from Porter and/or Chamberlain's Passing of the Armies), including the Union salute to John B. Gordon and his soldiers.

Roll the credits.

I know how I would start the movie. The opening scene is of Grant watching as the Army of the Cumberland takes Missionary Ridge. Scene then flashes to the Mine Run campaign where Meade is calling off the attack. Then we go to Abraham Lincoln talking to his cabinet about the situation in Virginia and why Meade has not been aggressive enough and sending Grant to Virginia.

In G&G,Jeff was already a bit porky and long in the tooth to play Chamberlain.

Definitely Appomattox, but also Petersburg. That campaign introduced trench war fare. Many who could see the movie can then understand the concept of what soldiers went through. I have friends who cant comprehend Napoleonic tactics.

I'd like to see ME in a major role with my own name preceding all others including the producer's and the movie title. Of course, I need to have my own trailer and pretty female personal assistant to put the uniform or costume on of course. My salary will be commiserate with some oil rich sheik.

OK, that set aside, I'd like to see the death of Sedgwick, Upton's attack followed by Hancock's penetration of the mule shoe, Petersburg, Crater, Fort Steadman.

IMHO the battles should include The Overland Campaign, The Atlanta Campaign, the March to the Sea, the Battle of the Crater, and the Appomattox Campaign. A lot of material but they could pick and choose.
