Ok here is the skinny!

Adam Michael
Born 9/22/06 11:19 am
7lbs 3oz

if you want the gory details see below, and if you see these abbreviations this is what it means

cntrx - contractions
DH - dear hubby or Mike (duh)

Friday September 22, 2006 we woke early, made sure everything was ready from my inlaws to care for our dogs, and left for the hospital for my induction.

We arrived at 7:30, after arguing with the registration lady about what my last name was I was given my wrist band and sent upstairs to have a baby!

About 9am my doctor came in, checked me, broke my bag of water (no fluid came out) inserted the scalp monitor and pressure sensor. This was very painful, I started doubting my ability to go natural, if I was in tears over this, how would I manage through contractions and pushing. Then the pitocin was started. I started to contract, but the pressure sensor wasn't working and my belly wasn't going soft in between cntx.

The doctor pulled out the pressure sensor and tried again, I almost broke Mike's fingers this time, again the pressure sensor wasn't working, and they turned the pitocin off. I was at 5 cm.

About 10 min later the doctor came back a 3rd time to insert the pressure monitor, she said it went in better this time, my belly was still not softening, I was in having 15 min long painful cntrx. I had to pee, so the nurse helped me get situated in the bathroom. When I came back, I sat in the rocker and DH rubbed my back.

The baby's pressure dropped, from 139 to 60, before I could blink 4 nurses were in the room, flipping me all over the place, they called my doc out of the OR, the hearbeat recovered, but not very quickly in the next hear beat I was wearing an O2 mask, DH was being handed scrubs and I was being wheeled to the OR for an emergency C-section. The ansthesiologist was having my sign consent forms, the nurse yelled out the heart rate is dropping again, my doctor yelled from the hallway, we have to do general anesthesia.

My mask was changed, I started to cry, Dh wasn;t going to be there, I practically wasn't going to be there, the nurses were trying to get me to calm down, my belly was washed with betadine and then I woke up.

Mike was there to make sure I was ok, I asked 3 times what was going on, I couldn;t remember, I found out it was a boy, and he was healthy and doing fantastic, about 20 min later they brought him to see me, he was beautiful, looked like a little doll.

When I was coherent, I found out there was no amniotic fluid, the cord was wrapped around his neck and he passed a small amount of meconium.

through all that his apgars were 9/9!

I feel like I missed the birth of son, but DH keeps telling me I have the most unique birth story - or lack there of.

The important thing is he is here and I am here, what I am still wondering is where did the amniotic fluid go? I never noticed any discharge, never had a contraction on my own.

I think it was a small miracle that was performed one week ago today.

We went to the pedi yesterday for Adam's first check up, he is doing wonderfully! already at 8lbs, from 7lbs 3oz at birth, and 100% breastfed. I am so happy to have my little wonder here, I waited for so long, and I love him so much!

Ami and Mike,

Congratulations on the birth of your son Adam. He may have had a bit of trouble getting into the world, but it's obvious that he and you two are fighters. And that's all you need, the willingness to love and fight for yourself and your family. God bless all three of you.

Bart

Yikes!

Need a baby song for Adam M. Not "Bedtime with the Beatles", something tougher for our times. How about:

Talking Heads?

----------------
Stay Up Late
----------------

Mommy had. A little baby.
There he is. Fast asleep.
He's just. A little plaything.
Why not. Wake him up?
Cute. Cute. Little baby.
Little pee pee. Little toes.
Now he's comin' to me.
Crawl across. The kitchen floor.

Baby, baby, please let me hold him
I wanna make him stay up all night
Sister, sister, he's just a plaything
We wanna make him stay up all night
Yeah we do

See him drink. From a bottle.
See him eat. From a plate.
Cute. Cute. As a button.
Don't you wanna make him. Stay up late.
And we're having fun. With no money.
Little smile. On his face.
Don't cha' love. The little baby.
Don't you want to make him. Stay up late.

CHORUS

Here we go (all night long)
Sister, sister (all night long)
In the playpen...woo...(all night long)
Little baby goes, ha! (all night long)
I know you want to leave me...

Why don't. We pretend.
There you go. Little man.
Cute. Cute. Why not?
Late at night. Wake him up.

Here's the Talking Heads video:

A more apropo may be this 'Baby' version (I like it better!):

I've always been a fan of Billy Joel's Lullaby

Goodnight, my angel
Time to close your eyes
And save these questions for another day
I think I know what you've been asking me
I think you know what I've been trying to say
I promised I would never leave you
And you should always know
Wherever you may go
No matter where you are
I never will be far away

Goodnight, my angel
Now it's time to sleep
And still so many things I want to say
Remember all the songs you sang for me
When we went sailing on an emerald bay
And like a boat out on the ocean
I'm rocking you to sleep
The water's dark
And deep inside this ancient heart
You'll always be a part of me

Goodnight, my angel
Now it's time to dream
And dream how wonderful your life will be
Someday your child may cry
And if you sing this lullaby
Then in your heart
There will always be a part of me

Someday we'll all be gone
But lullabies go on and on...
They never die
That's how you
And I
Will be
