Question WW2 Nose Art North v South.

Looking at my favourite UK 8AF Base, The 381st at Ridgewell, the Rebs win the Nose Art big time!

Alabama Gal, Georgia Rebel, Georgia Rebel #2, The Alamo, The Rebel, Carolina Queen, and not forgetting the most famous bomber of them all The Memphis Belle.

For the Yanks, South Boston Shillelagh. Ok, so I'll give 'em L.A. City Limits as well, give 'em a chance.

At this rate of attrition The Rebs are gonna win big! But why is that? Southern Folks got more homesick?

Hey England...

Thanks for pointing that out. I suppose the reputation of Southern Beauties is a valid one.

(Including my own Alabama gal...my wife)

Default Looks like a clear Southern Victory.

91st BG - Rebel's Revenge, Miami Clipper (Gorgeous Gal on the art...), Delta Rebel 2,

379th BG Scarlett O'Hara, 447th BG Virginia Lee, and San Antonio Rose.

For the Yanks, one extra, Yankee Gal.

CLEAR SOUTHERN VICTORY!

Talking

In recent times the CBF was flown over battlefields by Southerners in the US Armed Forces.

I read a story of a CBF flown over Afganistan during Operarion Enduring Freedom.

I also read an account of an Army unit made up of Southerners who lost a CBF during the Korean War and had a replacement sent.

BTW, my wife is from the southern half of England (actually the Midlands) so does she count as a belle?
