I read that as Sunday noon. Any ideas on how to get Dear One to allow me to watch it? Of course, I will watch it anyway but will lose major points. I suppose I'm going to have to put in 3 hours worth of work before I have my first cuppa. Somehow, I don't think that's gonna work. He is on again at midnight Hmmm.
Ole
You can watch it any time - click on the word "watch" as I am watching now at 5:48 pm central.
Go to Book-tv, find the archives, etc.
Anyone else notice that Gallagher uses the one finger per hand method of typing, as do all of us who failed typing class, tho he does it very fast!
Jeez! How'd you like to have a library like that?

Tried to get through on the phone to Dr. Gallagher yesterday. Busy the whole time. Kept hitting redial. Anyway, I emailed him at his U of V address: gallagher@virginia.edu , because I really wanted him to weigh in on what I think are the two main threads on this board: Slavery was the primary cause, and the legality of secession. I mean, I really wanted to pin him down on TV fer cryin' out loud! I have no idea what he would say but it sure would have been worth watching. The phone actually rang once about 10 times then went to busy. Aaarghhh! I feel like I missed a golden opportunity....
Anyway, so I asked him those two questions by email, and happened to mention that they were hot points of contention on a civil war internet talk site. Well...shouldn't have added that. He sent me a nice note back this morning, and very courteously said that he would prefer not to participate on talk boards unlike his two colleagues Mark Grimsley and Brooks Simpson (?) ( don't know that guy..I'm sure he's a heavyweight in the world of CW history). So, I wasn't able to get his input. He did agree that those topics are very contentious. Don't get me wrong. He wasn't in any way impolite or condescending. I don't want to give the impression that he's anything but a very nice, extremely knowledgable person. His email matched his demeanor on TV, I guess is what I'm saying.
So, maybe Mr. Grimsley or Mr. Simpson could weigh in on those topics if anybody has their email addresses?

See Sam's post above. You can watch it online at any time.

Terry:
Brooks Simpson has a number of books out. The one I have is Sherman's Civil War; A Collection of Selected Correspondence....Believe he has one on Grant's correspondence as well.

Terry:
Am formulating a special curse for you. Went to abebooks.com, entered Brooks Simpson as an author, got numerous hits, bought several books on Grant and Lincoln. Probably monor books, but most likely interesting. Anyway, just wanted to give you a heads up so you'll know why when certain essential parts fall off.

Not a problem Ole. Had myself curse-proofed after my second divorce. Quite expensive but worth it. Prior to that I was always picking parts of myself up while walking, or at the mall, etc. due to numerous curses placed on me by ex-wife, co-workers, cat people etc. I'd recommend it should you find yourself out and about, and find that parts are dropping off without warning. Check the yellow pages under "Curses, removal".
