Sci Fi was my first love. However, I married the second. Be still my fickle heart.

Default Relation..

Why is there this relation between being a Sci Fi Fan and a Civil War Freak?.... It seems many of us have this relation...or affliction?

Default History/Future

because those of us who are interested in history are also intuitively interested in the future as well. Sci Fi leans towards a future orientation (not always).

I have long noted a connection between those who are interested in history and those who are interested in science fiction. Many of the great science fiction works are based in history; for instance, Isaac Azimov's Foundation Trilogy was conceived after Azimov read The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire. In reading especially the military-based sci fi, one often finds that their inspiration came from historical battles, etc. Clearly, the sci-fi authors are reading history.

Why the connection? I have pondered it and I think it is a general curiosity for times other than one's own and a sense of imagination. A good sense of imagination is necessary for reading both history and science fiction.

Ah, perhaps there is a sociology or psychology doctoral dissertation in there for someone some day.

It is an interesting thing to think about M.E. and Larry, and others. But you still have to flip it to brown the other side.

One nice thing about cooking: you have to do the other side.

Not really a sci-fi fan, but Captain Scarlet and Thunderbirds were compulsory viewing when I was a kid. Parker was the man. The early episodes of Red Dwarf were also brilliant. I think Lincoln made an appearance. Rimmer was stranded on Wax World, a theme park planet.
