Default Two Other Stories from 2005

A Journey That Ended in Anguish
ZNet - Woods Hole,MA,USSA
Col. Ted Westhusing, a military ethicist who
volunteered to go to Iraq, was upset by what he saw.
His apparent suicide raises questions.
... He was a deeply faithful Christian in a graduate
program of professional skeptics ... the ethics of
war, focusing on examples of military honor from
Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee ...

No recruiters allowed, they spit on the military at every opportunity... I realy don't want my tax dollars supporting that kind of... agenda.

I'm glad I know as many people as I do who have been to or are in Iraq... a pity the media is so fond of ignoring any kind of good news.

"How is honor possible in a war like the one in Iraq?" I wish the author would bother to ask some of the men and women who have actually been there. It would be a refreshing change and they might actually find that out.

Rest assured, not all of us college students follow this academic folly. Had my father's reserve been activated, i might not be here typing this. Some of us do respect the military and the freedoms their blood has paid for. As for Colonel Westhusing, unfortunately in a fight against an enemy who seeks not to merely conquer, but destroy civilization as we know it, all we can do is weed out the bad apples, in order for those who are honorable to continue the job.

Isn't that a fact... My best friends little brother blew the door to Sadaams Sons place and was involved in that little firefight. He's been to both locales several times now. A recruiter who was in on blowing in the gates of Baghdad... and cruising the main drag at 55 in an M1A1. An acquintance is a crew chief on a Spec Ops Helo and has just gone back for his fourth tour over there. A man I trained is going back again, first time he was at Baghdad International. A deceased friend spent three mos reading, unlocking, decrypting Computer files from Iraqi military computers printing out thousands of pages of documents. Three young men I know have gone or are there now. Another is a civilian contractor in Afghanistan, he's been there since the Taliban gave in the ghost. I could go on... but the one thing in common they all have is a very distinct belief that we are doing the right thing and that we are winning. The only way we'll lose is if the cowards in the media suceed in convincing the American people that we lost, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

I will salute those in harms way and hold in utter contempt those who write about them w/out talking w/ them.

I think the only place we get anything close to fair reporting is the Fox News Channel. They at least attempt to tell some of the good things happening in Iraq. The mainstream media outlets, or CNN? Forget it.

Regards,

John W.

I just talked to another person who just got back. He told me about an attack on his patrol in which he almost got it. He lost four friends over there, but told me the work he was doing was worth the cost that is being paid. Funny, you don't hear that on CNN.

My own service was a cakewalk compared to what those kids are going through. They have earned my eternal gratitude.

The person mentioned in my earlier post is a Major in the US Army Medical Corps.
