Word to the wise about researching the Civil War on the internet
I tried to look up for "captured colors" in the Civil War, and boy did I get overloaded. I pulled up several, several sites and the computer began to freeze up, basically say, "This is bull $(@*" but there was still more and more information out there. It was only the tip of the iceburg. I don't think this computer can take another round of research....

do you have access to Guild Press CD-Rom Official Records. It has a whole section on the awarding of the MOH and capturing of colors. Check it out. Pretty interesting.

The internet? It can be useful but I prefer books, libraries, museums and historical societies. The internet is good for boards like this one, Authentic Campaigner, CW Reenactor and a couple of others that allows you to network with other CW enthusiasts. Often times the members can set you straight or give you a clue that will answer your question. It's worked for me but one thing I'm hesitant to do is to use it as a primary source of research. It's too easy for some to put BS on a site and so I tend to shy away unless it's a university or gubmint site.
Cool Grant, but right now im trying to fiddle away in reports, maps, and stories for precise records of colors captured and my computer can't take it, and i have too many books to file through
Alright, I need some help here from the people of this board. At the Mule Shoe, May 12, 1864, 2nd Corps assualted entrenched Confederate positions, question to answer, what brigades did, MacDougall, Carroll, Owen, McKeen, Brewster, Edwards, Bidwell, Wheaton, Crocker, McAllister, and Egan command? Sound confusing, join the bunch.
Alrighty, with the much needed help of Milhistbuff, I had gathered information on the Battle of the Mule Shoe, but ran into a another rut which I need help. Im reading from the American Civil War magazine about this battle, but the layout in which they have of this, contradicts the order of battle in which I have found. In the magazine, issued May, 2004, has brigade commanders that don't exist in the link provided by Milhistbuff, so it makes the proper allignment of units impossible unless it can be clearedup
