Thanks for the advice.

Edited to say that I had a hard time deciding but chose Civil War Times. I'm thinking about North and south too.

Default No Time!

I wish I had time for magazines. I have been forced to cut back on e-mail so I can spend some time with the books I buy, but don't have time to read!

I know the feeling. I am currently trying to get through "Portals To Hell, Military Prisons of the Civil War" by Lonnie R. Speer and re-reading "Perryville, This Grand Havoc of Battle" by Kenneth Noe; all in my spare time.

Thanks all,

I'll try North and south for a year. I looked at their website and the current issue and find respectable writers.

I prefer North and South. They have excellent articles, accept criticism, and aren't forever stuck in the eastern theater. IMO they have the best of the western authors and historians. They also have panel discussions amoungst well known authors. Very, Very Good.

I subscribe to quite a few Civil War magazines, journals, and newspapers. I'd say they the order of quality is as follows, from highest to lowest:

North & South
Blue & Gray
Gettysburg
America's Civil War
Civil War Times Illustrated
Civil War News
Civil War Historian
Camp Chase Gazette

I stopped at a bookstore today to browse around and bought a copy of North and South magazine. It is every bit as good as posts here say it is! Thanks for the recommendation.

Default North and South it is!

Sounds as though the consensus of opinion is that North and South is the one mag to have, if you're having only one!
