Rick Senger's post of 10/05/04 reminds me that we used to have a trivia game here on Civil War Talk. Of course, it has been inactive since this past March.

I'm wondering - how many people would be interested in seeing the War Between the States Trivia Game reactivated?

If you're interested, post here. Let's see if there's enough interest to warrant making the effort to start the game up again.

It is a good idea Hoosier, but Mike and I would need someone to take on the responsibility of question finder/poster/scorer, and everything else that goes along with TWBTS Trivia Game.

Mike and I just don't have the time to dedicate to the game. We have been waiting for someone with enough interest to take over for a long time, but no one really does...

Ami

Actually, I volunteered to be poster/scorer a while ago. That's the reason why I got promoted to brigadier general.

I'm still willing to be poster/scorer. However, I still don't want to be the question finder, for pretty much the same reason you and Mike don't want to fill that role.

I started this thread with the idea that if a lot of people showed interest in playing the game, maybe we could find someone who would have both the time and the inclination to be the question finder.

I'd like to leave this thread open for a while longer, just to see if there is any response, but obviously, so far, there has been no indication that anyone has any interest at all, either in playing the game or in helping to run it.

Ami & George:

I would be more than happy to volunteer my services but I feel that I am sadly lacking in knowledge and experience. If not for these short-comings, I would be glad to help out.

Dawna

I'd really like to see a Trivia Game running again. George, if you can run it, then I think we should try.

Why don't you post a message on the trivia board as an invitation and sign up thread, I'd like to see 15 or more players signed up before we start.

Meanwhile I'll see if I can put a few hundred questions together, and I'll also prepare to send out a newsletter to our members.

Or, find a volunteer who wants to look up questions.

I am sure it can't be that hard to make up a few questions from books that have been read. I think almost anyone can do the job as question finder with our much trouble. That is if they have the time to donate, and frankly my dear husband, you don't...

I'd be glad to volunteer to look up questions if ya'll would give me about ten days to look up stuff to begin with. And how many questions would be needed each week or how often is this done?

Thea, thanks very much for your offer of assistance.

When the game was last active, Mike would post five questions per week, rating each question as worth 1 or 2 points, depending on how tough he judged them to be. The questions would be posted on Saturday and people would be allowed to post responses until the following Saturday, when it came time to post the next set of questions.

Of course, it doesn't make any sense to put you to the trouble of looking up questions until and unless we get indications that there is actually a sufficient number of people interested in playing the game to make it worth your time.

That was why I started this thread, to try to find out whether people would indicate interest in playing the game. So far, no one has really indicated such interest. Dawna, you, and I have all indicated willingness to help run the game, but no one has come out and said they actually want to play the game if we run it.

Mike has suggested that I try putting a post on the trivia board to see if that might be more successful in finding people interested in playing. I suppose that makes sense - if a new post appears on the trivia board for the first time since March, it might be more likely to attract the sort of people who would be interested in playing a trivia game than this post here on the Campfire Chat board.

Let me check with Mike and see how he thinks it could work.

That's fine with me, George. It would be challenging to me to find the questions but of course we need people that actually want to play the game. So I'll wait and see what you and Mike decide.

I would be interested ... but I lack some of the knowledge to attempt to answer the question ... would the answers be held to allow several people the chance to get the right answer or would it be first come first to get answers right? ... Also would the correct answers be posted with list of point winners? just a few questions to begin with ... HAHAHA ... oh and in case you didn't catch it ... Yes I am interested
