Professor Gerald Prokopowicz interviewed Kevin Levine on Civil War Talk Radio.
http://www.worldtalkradio.com/archive.asp?aid=6722 Levine's basic criticism is the lack of analysis and that incidents are oft cited without analysis behind it. My take is that he is asking that we not only provide the source and but then analyze it. One problem I've had with my research is finding enough such that an interpretation can be made. One strand is tantilizing, but not conclusive proof of a certain pattern or popular practice. Imagine the passage stating that one Confederate soldier carried his toothbrush in the buttonhole of his jacket. Should we expect to see an entire column do the same? Of course not! One or two, but not an entire regiment. More research would be required to justify it.
