Whats the difference between the 'Post reply' and the 'quick reply' button options?

When I want to reply specifically to the immediate post I thought to use 'quick' , but to reply to the thread in general to use 'Post', but I never know for sure where my reply will end up in the hierarchy.

post quick reply doesn't give you all the bells and whistles that post reply does.
