Default Major General Robert E. Rodes of the Army of Northern Virginia

Since I have found Rodes to be one of the most interesting of the Confederate commanders, I had ordered this book thru Amazon way back in November of last year. It's publication date was supposed to be Nov. 30, 2007.

http://www.savasbeatie.com/books/rodes_book.htm

I waited and waited and finally cancelled the order.

If anyone has been interested in this book, I have some news.

I asked the folks at Savas-Beatie what was the story about the availiability of the book. Here is the reply I received on April 5:

"Thank you for your inquiry and for taking the time and trouble to write to
us.

The Rodes bio was delayed for a few months. It is now complete and will be
sent to the printer next week. It takes about five weeks to print and
ship, and another couple weeks thereafter for Amazon to receive it. If you
want a personally inscribed copy from the author, let us know and we can
arrange it for you. It is a marvelous biography.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you.

There you have it!

Default Rodes - the non West Pointer

Rodes was the only Confederate commander of a division or higher, in the Army of Northern Virginia, at Gettysburg, who was not a West Point graduate.
He did graduate from VMI, so "civilian generals" did not yet hold high command in Lee's army.

Guys,

I'm eagerly looking forward to this one. Rodes was heavily involved in the creation of the Sharpshooter Corps for his division that later spread to other divisions throughout the ANV. I'm hoping this gets some coverage in the book.
