Speaking of Union Cavalry ........

I just came across a 3 volume work by one Stephen Z. Starr about the Union Cavalry. Vol. 1 is about the Cav. in the east 1861-1863, vol. 2 is about the Cav. in the east 1863-1865, Vol. 3 is about the Cav. in the west 1861-1865.

Anyone familiar with these?

This trilogy won, in 1985, something called the "Jules and Frances Landry Award", maybe associated with the LSU Press? (publisher of the book).

From references I've seen about the set, the regard leans toward the positive. Have actually seen nothing of a negative. So, I conclude that they are not an important work, but they ain't bad.

Good set; well worth a look... get them from the library worth an interlibrary loan but I wouldn't spend a lot on them.

When I read the third volume I did come across some interesting info I was unaware of but all in all most of the info had been in other works I had already read.
