Read this one solely because it was very inexpensive. It's not an important work, but it has some worthwhile things to say. David Eicher (not an amateur) concentrates on the Keystone Cops "workings" of the Confederate Government when it was being formed and during the war. While reading it, I couldn't help but recognize that pre-war attitudes toward government in general carried over into the Confederate Congress. The delegates simply had no idea of cooperation for the greater good. Little wonder that any good intentions of the
CSA as a united body didn't really get out of the gate in good order.
