Maybe not considered a movie, but here goes,

Gore Vidal's Lincoln, starring Sam Waterston as Lincoln and Mary Tyler Moore as Mary.

A TV mini-series now available on DVD. Liked it a lot.

Gettysburg, Glory, but no way Gods and Generals, as it was too much of a Jackson love feast.

Anyone remember Major Dundee, starring Charlton Heston?

What about documentary films such as The Battle of Franklin, Shiloh, Chickamauga and Spotsylvania? Has anyone seen any of these or have a suggestion for other documentaries.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Everything I know about the Civil War ("Hooray for the South! Hooray for General Lee!") and religion (Tuco's school of crossing oneself) and gunfighting ("if you have to shoot, shoot. Don't talk") I learned from the Tuco (the Ugly) in movie.
