Question Any Experts on old Civil War movies out there?

When I was a kid, I'm seem to remember watching an old movie - 1940s vintage(?) There was a lot of confederate PoWs out in Arizona or somewhere?

The film ends with the Yanks surrounded by Indians and the Rebs come to their rescue.

Anyone know the name of that movie?

Default jot a PM to RebAl

I cannot come up with the title, but know the movie you are talking about and it is one of his favorites. He has not been on the board much lately as he is busy with some projects, but I am sure he will answer eventually (if someone here doesn't come up with the name before hand). Tell him "Miss Markie" sent you.

Default Thanks Miss Markie!

It's bugged me for years! I only ever saw it on TV once. I even went out and brought a huge, huge volume of the BBC film guide, 20,000 films - weighs a ton! I read all 20,000 entries, it took weeks!

I guess about 20 'could haves' were in there but none on DVD so no way of knowing.....

.......maybe Randolph Scott was in it.....? But, Hey! RS was in most 1940s Westerns...........

I have compiled a short list. There were probably many more. Other than Gone with the Wind and The Red Badge of Courage, A Southern Yankee is the only one in that era that I can find, but I doubt that is it. It was a comedy starring Red Skelton.

The General 1927
Gone With the Wind 1939
A Southern Yankee 1948
The Red Badge of Courage 1951
The Great Locomotive Chase 1956
Friendly Persuasion 1956
Raintree County 1957
The Horse Soldiers 1959
An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge 1962
Shenandoah 1965
The Blue and the Gray 1982
North and South 1985
Glory 1989
Glory II
Gettysburg 1993
Sommersby 1993
Andersonville 1996
The Hunley 1999
Ride With the Devil 1999
Left for Dead
Gods and Generals 2003

Hope this helps but probably not.
