I've borrowed this particular work from the library twice in the last 6 mos; I find it a fascinating insoght into the mind of Sherman. He was certainly a soldier of fascinating insights; this particular work also shows him as a human being w/ very real flaws & merits.

You probably have received your book by the time you read this, but Hirshon's "The White Tecumpseh" is good. Fellman's "Citizen Sherman" treats on Sherman's bi-polarity fairly evenly along with some other aspects of his (Sherman's) uneven behavior. Marszalek's is semi-idolatry as is LLoyd Lewis' "Sherman, Fighting Prophet," which seems to be a justification of Sherman's "Memoir's." Kennett's books are uneven.

A good book on Sherman's military prowess is Albert Castel's "Decision in the West." Castel, at first a Sherman admirer, comes to realize Sherman's military ability is limited.
