The Shenandoah

Just finished "The Last Shot" by Lynn Schooler. Tis the story of the only Confederate warship to circumnavigate the globe. She fired the last shot on June 22nd, 1865. On the 28th Captain Waddell learned that the war was quite over. He and his crew made a long and tedious journey from the Bering Sea area to England without ever making landfall. They lived in daily terror of an encounter with a Union gunboat. Many of the 38 Union ships she captured were whalers. At the time the whale population was decimated by greed. The Shenandoah inadvertantly was an early incarnation of a militant Greenpeace. A good read, especially if you are nautically minded.

I saw that book and am interested in that story, but I'm holding off till later this month when another book on the same story comes out. Then I'll compare them and make a choice.

Thanks for the tip. Being a sailor, I am always interested in tales of the sea. How did you find out about "Sea of Gray"?
