"Battle Cry of Freedom" is one of 3 books I kept when I sold my collection a couple years ago. It's true the fighting and battle descriptions don't start right away in the book. The first part covers the events leading up to the war, the causes, the compromises etc. That's good, IMO, because I still haven't read up on that period as much as I would like to, and understanding the events that took place during the years prior to the first shot is really essential.
