Did you enjoy carnton? and did you get to visit anny other sites while in franklin?

Steven,

I enjoyed Carnton for the brief time I was there. My brothers were with me and they have only a very mild interest in the War, so I didn't get to stay as long as I wanted, plus there was a wedding going on, so I definitely have it marked for a longer return visit. It was late in the day so I only got a drive-by of the Carter House, so I haven't even scratched the surface of Franklin. We're tentatively planning on going to the Nashville show in December, and I have a new book on the Battle of Nashville, so I should be "studied-up" on it by then so that I can visit some of those sites. I also want to visit General Ewell's grave and that of General Thomas Benton Smith, whose tragic story I'm sure you're familiar with, but if not here's a link:

What unit do you reenact with?

Regards,

John W.

Will you be attending the Fort Dickerson event in early Nov?

steven

Steven,

I finished "A Distant Flame" today. It was excellent. Great battle descriptions of the Atlanta Campaign. Also saw where it won the Michael Shaara Award for Civil War Fiction.

If you lived close by, I'd just loan you my copy.

Regards,

John W.

Steven,

I picked up "Widow of the South," today. Looking forward to starting it!

Also picked up a new novel called "The March," by E.L. Doctorow. It's centered around Sherman's march and is supposed to be pretty good (in Amazon's top 20). I guess you could say I've been in a fiction mood lately.

Regards,

John W.
