Default Scythe of Fire

Returned it to the public library today. The author walks you through from the raising of militia companies that are organized into the 8th Georgia Infantry. They were initially armed with the Mississippi rifle but Gov. Brown disarmed many of them when they left the state for Virginia. Still, one company managed to sneak out with their guns. The author takes you through the battles of the 8th including 1st Manassas where they experience heavy fire and losses in their first battle. They're sadly depleted by the time of Antietam and permission is refused to return to Georgia for rebuilding and rest. The author relies on personal accounts and weaves them successfully into the tale of the 8th all the way to their surrender. Well written and well research, this is worth your time if you're into the Army of Northern Virginia.

BTW, Edward Hamilton sells it for $8.95.
