Shot and Shell: The Third Rhode Island Heavy Artillery Battery in the Rebellion Written 14 years after the war ended, this unit history provides a very pro-union, abolitionistic perspective of the war.
The 3rd RH Heavy Artillery served primarily on the Eastern Seaboard and was involved in the reduction of Fort Pulaski, the raid on Pocotaglio, the Siege of Battery Wagner and then the Siege of Charleston. Units also participated in the Bermuda Hundred & Petersburg and Fort Fisher. In telling of its battles and marches, the author draws heavily from the dairies of its members. |
