Lincoln At Cooper Union, The Speech That Made Abraham Lincoln President To All,
Have just finished reading the book, Lincoln At Cooper Union, by Harold Holzer. The book is excellent for the background on how Lincoln came to make the speech and the effect it had in making him a Presidential contender.
I found it quite interesting as to the fact of the speech itself. It contained nothing on tariffs, big government, states rights, etc. It consisted solely of the subject of slavery, as if Lincoln thought that subject was of some importance.
I also managed to buy and view the DVD from C-SPAN, Lincoln's speech at Cooper Union, performed by Sam Waterston. It is truly amazing the difference when one actually hears the speech vice just reading it. It was also amazing to see a large, modern-day crowd sit still to listen to a speech that lasted almost two hours. I would highly recommend buying the DVD from C-SPAN as it was money well spent in my own opinion.
Sincerely,
Unionblue
