Soldiers in America 1754-1865 Soldiers in America 1754-1865 by Don Troiani is a must for any library that has a section on the men who did the fighting from the Revolutionary to the end of the Civil War.
Chock full of illustrations by Don Troiani and splendid photos of the equipment illustrated. THe text explains the pictures and is quite informative.
I learned quite a bit about the practices of Armies in North America, why some of the uniforms looked the way they did and the influence the British and French Armies had on the US Army.
I picked my copy up at the local Half Price Books for $15... it is well worth twice that.

However, it is never I who am guilty, but those other Americans, the past or present government or the other political party. Americans almost never find other countries guilty. It is always ourselves or our fancied influence in other countries. Louis L'amour |
