I wasn't planning on seeing the movie because the book was so bleeding boring. But now that Thea is suggesting a boycott maybe I will, what doesn't she want me to see?

Interesting note Thea, a pity a good bit of it is a crock as at least three of the entries are pure fiction.

"It's mostly moonshine. They've taken a core of true information and ballooned it all out of proportion." historian James McPherson, of claims that 50,000 blacks fought for the South.

As for my entry on this message board of Jan.9,6:55 p.m. I would suggest that all members of this board thoroughly read my first paragraph.

I merely passed along something I'd seen in a newsletter. I also mentioned that I planned to see the movie myself. Zou thought it was amusing, as I did.

The idea of "Don't shoot the messenger" apparently doesn't hold water on this board and this is really too silly to argue about. Watch the movie, as I intend to do. Or don't, it's your choice. That's one of the glorious things about being an American.

Thank you Zou, Neil, and Doug, for at least reading the entire message and not attributing the content to me. Perhaps there's a lesson in all this. READ thoroughly before passing judgement, and even then, think before putting it to paper.

THea, I did read the entire message... I'm reconsidering seeing the movie simply because so many are saying it isn't a bad movie and is in fact better than the book. Renee Zellwenger is apparently a show stealer and likely to get an Oscar nod, maychance worth seeing.

I think very much before I put my thoughts to paper... I'm also not one to let a lie pass.

Have a nice evening.

Neil, as Thea pointed out, I found the nit-combing amusing. I'm going to see the movie, just waiting for it to come out on DVD. I have to weigh every dollar I spend right now, and 20 bucks to take Mr. Zou and me to the movies is not in the budget. When the DVD comes out I'll see it, and I'll pan it if it's bad, and praise it if it's good.

I've heard all sorts of criticism of the movie... that the uniforms are wrong, women's clothes are wrong, too many blacks, not enough blacks, too many Indians, not enough Indians, saddles are wrong, accents are wrong. It doesn't follow the book, it's a chick flick, too much sex, too little sex, too much action, too little action, too cerebral, too stupid.

You can get bogged in the details. Think of Gone With the Wind... just about every detail of that movie was soooo wrong, and yet it's one of the best movies ever made. It's fiction. Just like Cold Mountain. Not an authenticity documentary.

Good heavens, maybe I better not get my book published, here they come with the nit comb!

Zou

Zou,

As I have been reminded by a fellow member of the board here, there are three kinds of lies, according to Mark Twain.

"Lies, ****ed lies, and statistics."

Maybe we should add to Mr. Twain's line with the added catagory, 'and movie reviews'!

Get to work on that book, Zou, and don't let facts keep you from telling a great story.

Sincerely,
Unionblue

Well I have to confess. I laughed a hearty laugh when I read Zou's "The Yankees must of stole all her hair pins!!"
Classic.
I should have thanked Zou right then....but I didn't...

Thank you Zou.

Hi Everyone;

This is my first posting and I'm a little nervous as I'm such a rookie. But I thought I would just jump in with something I am familiar with and that is Cold Mountain. I did see it a few weeks ago and although I can't comment on the accuracy of accents, equipment, and battle scenes etc. I can say that I truly enjoyed this movie. I too thought Renee Zellweger was amazing as well as many other minor characters. I also thought that the emotional transformation and development of the three main characters was very well done, but especially that of Ruby. I hadn't read the book and I was surprised by the ending, but glad that it wasn't glamorized.

And welcome to the boards..Don't be nervous. We were ALL new here at one time. But this is a very courteous bunch and we're just here to learn!

I hope you will stick around and please, feel free to contribute any time. We absolutely love to have new people!

Thank you Thea! And I love Rose O'Neal Greenow's quote. I just finished reading Enemy Women...has anyone else read Paulette Jile's first novel?
