Struggle for Vicksburg by Stephen Ambrose is the standard book on the subject in every NPS gift shop. At less than 100 pages it is a splendid overview of the entire Campaign. Many people do not realise that Stephen Ambrose started his literary career as a Civil War scholar. HIs novel form of writing through the eyes of men who were there is present in this small book on the subject.
