We made the 30-mile trek to the theater today, and I'm glad we did. Really enjoyed it.

We had seen the stage show in Philadelphia a number of years ago.

I liked the music so much when I saw the stage show that I didn't particularly care about the fact that I couldn't really understand some of the plot twists and turns, but the movie includes a few details that you couldn't really see in the play, which helped me to understand the plot a little better.

Good for you George - I'd see the movie again in a heartbeat.

with the exception of being caught in an ice storm after the movie I have little to say but praise for this movie. If you are a huge fan of the stage show, you may not be as enamored w/ it as I was. Christine... wow, Raul... wow the Phantom... I think could have been cast slightly better but I am not disipointed. Carlotta was wonderful.

I could have done w/out the sword fight though, to be truthful I can't think of any other place in the play they could have put it though... sword fighting? nah the Phantom is suposed to be sneaky, garrotes and punjab lassos.

By the way have I mentioned that I really enjoyed it... my three year old couldn't take her eyes fromm the screen almost from the start and I do believe my wife enjoyed it as well. She's bragging about the quality of the ladies fashions.

hehehe so was the Phantom a Union or CS veteran?

Shane:

I'm glad that you and your family enjoyed the movie. I think the casting was very good, inluding that of the Phantom, who like Christine, was a virtual unknown before this movie. But I didn't realize until later that the part of Carlotta was played by Minnie Driver and I agree - she did an amazing job.

I enjoyed the sword fight and I thought it added an exciting new element to the story, even if it wasn't characteristic of the Phantom. As for the loyalties of The Phantom, no doubt he was originally from Canada and therefore was compelled to remain neutral!

Haven't seen it yet, but my folks and brother did and they absolutely loved it! They had seen it on stage before in Chicago and Milwaukee, and just thought it fit the theature production to a tee!

My brother also heard that Antonio Banderaz was originally cast for the Phantom, but because he would not do his own vocals, and that Andrew Lloyd Webber would not put his name on the movie unless all the actors did so, he was dropped from the cast. I don't know how good of a Phantom he would have done anyways, with that deep Latino accent of his.

I can't wait to see it!
Thanks for the reviews everyone, for it makes me want to see it even more now!!

Shane-hope you didn't hit too much in terms of accidents on your way home. We got that ice yesturday as well. Nasty crap!
