I'm a fairly recent Civil War buff. I've been reading primarily campaign histories for the past several months (e.g., Stephen Sears). One thing I've noticed is that the maps in these books (and I'm not necessarily pointing to Mr. Sears) are unsatisfactory. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good Civil War atlas?

This is my first post. I'm on the run at the moment, but I'll try to post in the New Recruits area later today or tomorrow.

Thanks in advance.

Barnes and Noble publishes a huge "Official Military Atlas of the Civil War" that is based on the maps found at Military History Institute at Carlisle Barracks, Penn. Be warned, it's a coffee table book and won't fit on most bookshelves.

THe Atlas is intended to ga w/ the 5? volume CD CW history. I picked one up for my father for $20 last Christmas. Saw one at Half Price Books for $11 last week... worth looking into and frankly for the price you won't go wrong.

The Atlas is goes with the 128 Vol. "Official Records of The War of the Rebellion". Fun part is finding family farms, mills, etc on the battle maps. Found some of mine at Mine Run-2 farms right on the Union Battle line, and a Mill on the Po River in the Spotsylvania area.
And, as indicated, the book is essential in studies of troop movements.

Greg, Did you check out in the past discussion area that we had been talking about clergy in the army? There was allot of informative information shared there. I think, it was in the "general discussion" area and something to the effect of clergy in the army. Anyone want to help me out where there was again?

Oh and welcome Greg. Haven't had a chance to do that yet.
