OzarkIronJohn,

So the other Civil War forum wouldn't let you come back, right?

OIJ, admit it, the only thing you are upset over is the idea that there are not more Southern board members with views like your own.

It's too bad that some view things differently or have other opinions, but that's life and you should be able to accept that and move on.

There ain't no southerners no more. Any of 'em that might still exist are lurking or cowering in the dark. I don't know if their afraid of Buch-Chen Co or not, but they most certainly do not stand up and shout out.
Perhaps, John, your concept of "southerner" is not shared by southerners on this board. That might explain their silence on the topics you choose to highlight.

I would characterize none of them as wimps or fringe confederates. They are Confederates through and through. They are very well read, and not given to looking for things that aren't there.

That they don't stand behind you in all things is no surprise. That I think they're sometimes full of "it" is also a given. But they don't get nutzoid and fly away on tangents and then pout about a lack of followers. They state their piece and hold to it with reason, logic and, sometimes, evidential backup.

What is a "southerner," by the way?

Ole

Obviously Ole. No doubt about it. We're good little patriotic American subjects. We don't dissent. We don't complain. We eat the crap you all throw at US without as much as a whimper anymore. Re-Constructed Rebels. After three or four more generations there won't be any more of US to dissent. We'll all be gone. Like the American Bison. Fatalities along the path to enlightenment. Fatalities to American civilization.

I shall not go quietly into the night. I shall not bury my head in the sand and let their ********** wash over me. I shall dissent. I shall rebel. I shall fight. I shall raise Hell.

Very nicely put, John. But what, exactly, is the rub? Is it incorrect or outrageously offensive to hold that the fire-eaters set off a chain of events that got away from them? Is it incorrect or outrageoulsy offensive to hold that the practice of slavery was the basic factor in the division and subsequent, bloody war?

It is incorrect and outrageous to blame you or anyone else of your persuasion for that bloody war. What they did then was, quite simply, what they did then. My only interest lies in exploring the why. The exploring doesn't--ought'nt--imply blame-fixing.

You have interesting things to say. All of them are welcome, but in refuting them, you are not personally attacked, unless you take it that way. Lighten up. We're all here to learn.

And in the end you'll end up like all the rest. Champions of a rebellion that never happened. And forgotten by all.

Dred:

I've read your posts and admire your command of the subject, but I can no longer resist asking how, after 4 hours, you were able to regain feeling in your butt? I'd be crippled for weeks.

HAHA... took me a minute to figure out what you meant. I am the type of person that can find the most comfortable position no matter where I am. It helps alot at reenactments! If I remember right that particular tree had some nice grass underneath it, it was actually pretty comfortable

I shall not go quietly into the night. I shall not bury my head in the sand and let their ******** Unacceptable. wash over me. I shall dissent. I shall rebel. I shall fight. I shall raise Hell.Fair enough but leave the racist garbage off this site; there are plenty enough white supremo sites that welcome such.
I can put up w/ a lot, I welcome those opinions that are different than mine as I hope to be able to learn something new. But that line gets crossed when I see racist comments like "***********." Perhaps it is a reflection of my upbringing and of my family, perhaps it is a reflection of the men & women I served w/. "********" indeed, those black, latino, Asian, Native American etc soldiers served their nation, THIS nation, w/ pride. A pity some appear unable to grasp that.

Some of us are proud to be US citizens; if that offends some... so be it.
