Mr.Steele, Thanks for your comments about reenacting. I haven't had the length of hardship that you have, but I got really cold one night! A few years ago we had a Mud March in early spring thinking it would be good weather, but during the night it froze and I remember being on all fours praying to God to please warm me up. The next day the sun came up but it was still cold. We had a good event. However, It wasn't till I got home that evening and after a long hot shower until I warmed up. Talk about the guilt. Thinking that those who fought for real suffered 100 times more than I did.
I hope you sent our heart felt sorrow and thanks to your friends family, who fell on our behalf.
I have really enjoyed being a part of this group, I have learned a lot. Be good catch ya later. Chadutes......
I plan to be able to portray my G-G-G-Grandfather, a private in the 60th Ohio as well as a private in the 4th Texas. I'm a few peices of equipment away from being able to.

We have prortrayed Federals more than southerners due to the low turn-out of Federal reenactors in this area. We will probably do the blue at Saltville in two weeks.
My home unit is the 3rd Ark here at home. We have several decendents from the actual 3rd,including myself. I have enjoyed "playing both sides." Since our unit do not have the ability to protray the 3rd very many times, we will do whatever is required to make a good event. I also do civilian at the historic park about 30 min from my house. Our home Battalion does both Confederate and Illinois units.
I just enjoy the all aspects of the conflict from 1861 to 1865. Reading, research, and reenacting.

I too, reenact both sides. My home unit here in Ohio is now the 30th OVI for the Union, but I have also played a Confederate in the 17th Mississippi, playing an Ohioian in both units!
A very dear Southern friend of mine moved to Ohio and organized the 17th Mississippi and a bunch of my Union reenacting friends fell in when not doing their unit in other events. I found out while falling in gray that one of the original 17th MS members was a sergeant who came all the way from Columbus, Ohio, to fight for the Confederacy! I elected to portray him.
I later found out that perhaps as many as 5,000 Ohioians went South and fought for the Confederacy during the war.
I have also played a Union assistant surgeon, a civilian bartender and telegraph operator.
It's a great hobby, isn't it?
Sincerely,
Unionblue

Well blue, you do look like what I think a CW barber ought to look like. Cheaper uniform and tools too, I'll bet.
