Not quite sure if anyone will read this, the last post was in 2005.
I am relatively new to the hobby and trying to find my niche. I am part of an artillery unit that does both Confederate and Federal - mostly Confederate. I mostly employ my time as cook. I fill in as a male on the gun when we are short but only then as I have not mastered looking entirely male (which I believe is the correct way to be if doing so). I am also interested in possibly doing more living history but do not want to be relegated to a CW nurse or other popular roles. Hopefully I can find something unique out there.
I like this board and intend to pass it along to friends.

First, tinecailine, welcome to the board!

You'll find in the "Reenactors" threads many in your situation. I'm sure you can find answers there. Meanwhile, learn to pick your nose and spit. That will help a little.

Ole (lost my emoticons, again. Big smiley)

Well, I don't actually do any of the above, as I am a civilian woman, and portray such.

My husband, however is a member of the 4th Alabama Infantry, Law's Brigade, and when he has to portray the other side, they are the 79th New York "Highlanders".

I have just recently joined the ranks of the 25th NC. We also portray the 14th Iowa.

I haven't had the opportunity to attend any events yet but the unit does Federal a bit more than CS mostly because of the lack of numbers.

I'm really looking forward to immersing myself in the hobby. I moved to WNC a few years ago from Eastern Canada and there was no opportunity to take part in reenacting there. Although, serving 23 years in the Army Reserves gave me plenty of chances to get rained/snowed on, etc.

What about being “Duel Impression”? I portray both sides with equal enthusiasm.
